CMAT Exam Preparations

Common Management Admission Test (CMAT) is a national level competitive examination conducted by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). It is an online computer based test (CBT) which is organized twice a year. The candidate is eligible to appear in both of the tests and the better of the two scores would be used for the admission process. CMAT scores are accepted by management institutions all over India which are approved by AICTE.

CMAT is a three-hour test and contains a total of 100 questions from the following 4 sections:

1. Quantitative Techniques & Data Interpretation

2. Logical Reasoning

3. Language Comprehension

4. General Awareness

Each section contains 25 questions and each question carries 4 marks. For every incorrect answer, 1 mark would be deducted. For detailed analysis visit this link

Final year students and Graduates from any discipline with 50% score are eligible to apply. AICTE also conducts CMAT in foreign countries for eligible NRIs/PIOs seeking admission in Management Institutions in India. There is no age restriction for appearing in CMAT.

For academic year 2015-2016, the first CMAT exam will be from 25th to 29th September 2014 and the second exam will be from 19th to 23rd February across 62 cities in India. The registration for CMAT 2014 has to be done till 1st September.

MAT Exam Pattern

Management Aptitude Test (MAT) is a national level Management Entrance Examination conducted by All India Management Association (AIMA) for admission to Management Programs of about 600 B-schools in India. Some international B-schools also consider the MAT score as an admission input criteria. The test is organized 4 times a year in February, May, September and December.

MAT provides the candidates an option for a paper-based or a computer-based test. MAT’14 paper based test is on 7th September 2014 while computer-based test will stretch over dates starting from 13th September 2014 depending upon the number of participating students.

The test is divided into 5 sections accordingly as: 

1. Language Comprehension

2. Mathematical Skills

3. Data Analysis & Sufficiency

4. Intelligence & Critical Reasoning

5. Indian & Global Environment

The total time duration of the test is 150 minutes which includes a total of 200 questions with 40 questions in each of the above mentioned sections.

Graduates from any discipline and students currently in final year of their graduate courses are eligible to appear in the test. Students are advised to check out the list of B-schools that take in MAT scores as their admission criteria.

Xavier Aptitude Test(XAT) Pattern

Xavier Aptitude Test or XAT is a national level test organized by XLRI, a B-school is Jamshedpur for admission into management programs of its own and XAT Associate Member Institutes (XAMI). XAT 2015 will be conducted on January 4th 2015 across 47 cities in India along with 2 international cities namely Dubai and Kathmandu.

The registration for XAT 2015 starts on 16th August and would continue up to 22nd November 2014. Students who have completed a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognized university are eligible to apply for XAT.

The XAT 2015 exam pattern is a 3 hours pen-paper based test which is structured into 4 broad sections:

1. Quantitative Ability

2. English Language & Logical Reasoning

3. Decision Making

4. GK and Essay

The first 3 sections are included in Part 1 of the paper and Part 2 is General Knowledge. Students would be provided with 140 minutes for Part 1 and 10 minutes for Part 2. The marks of the General Knowledge and Essay section will not be used for short-listing process and will be used by the institutes only at the time of final selection.

The XAT test is usually the most difficult of all Management Entrance Examinations and students are advised to have proper time management while attempting the exam.

CAT Pattern

CAT is a national level exam organized by the IIMs every year for admission into their management programmes. The exam is aimed at testing the analytical, quantitative and the verbal ability of the student. Some of the non-IIMs also consider the test score of CAT as their admission criteria. Earlier, CAT was organized as a paper-based test but from 2009 onwards it is organized as an online test.

The CAT exam pattern is broadly divided into 4 sections namely: 

1. Quantitative Ability

2. Verbal Ability

3. Data Interpretation

4. Logical Reasoning

The Quantitative ability section evaluates students in terms of basic mathematics including topics like Distance-time, Simple and Compound Interest, Number system, Algebra, Sets etc.

Verbal section focuses on Sentence Rearrangement, Sentence Correction, Critical Reasoning and Vocabulary Usage.

The Data Interpretation is based on understanding charts and tables and answering questions based on them.

Logical Reasoning tests your ability to understand a given situation and deduce useful conclusions from it. This section contains puzzles, sequences, groupings, blocks etc. in the logical and reasoning section.

CAT 2014 would comprise of 100 questions and duration of the exam would be 170 minutes. Quantitative and Data Interpretation which make up the first section will have 50 questions while Verbal and Logical reasoning which form the second section will have the rest 50 questions.
