About Amazon
Amazon is an American
e-commerce company with headquarters in Seattle, Washington. It is the largest
Internet-based company in the USA. Amazon.com had started as an online
bookstore, but soon diversified into video games, electronics, apparel,
furniture, food, toys, and jewellery. The company also produces Kindle e-book
readers, Kindle Fire tablets, Fire TV and Fire Phone and is a prominent
provider of cloud computing services.
Jeff Bezos founded the company in
1994, after leaving his employment as vice-president of D. E. Shaw & Co. He
began working on a business plan which eventually led to Amazon.com. He had
incorporated the company as "Cadabra" but changed the name
cadabra.com to amazon.com because it sounded similar to cadaver. Besides, a
name beginning with "A" was preferred due to the probability of its
occurring at the top of any alphabetical list.
Voted as one of the best
companies to work for, Amazon is a preferred employer for fresh technical graduates.
Amazon Selection Process
The company organizes a 3-tier
selection process for new recruits:
